So this is just a few lines to help you find out a little about me, the things that I do, and enjoy.

I have recently completed my 4 year long degree at the University of Plymouth, which included a twelve month industrial placement in London. My course taught me new technologies, skills, and programming languages. My work experience role as a Application Support and Maintenance specialist saw me managing a number of cost saving initiatives.

My main interests lie in technology, music, sport and film. I also like to keep an eye out for new gadgets and of course web design. I like to keep an active lifestyle by participating in sporting events, including football and tennis. I am a keen amateur photographer and display some of the better pictures I have taken in the gallery.

If you have anything to ask me then get in contact, via email or contact form. I am also on Facebook/Flickr/Twitter so feel free to add me.

University

Throughout my time in higher education studying Business Information Management Systems (BIMS for short), I encountered a vast range of subjects. The first year focused on a broad range of core business modules, including Accounting, Marketing and HR as well as an introduction to information systems and databases. The second year expanded further, concentrating on specific areas such as Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Information Retrieval, Information Systems' development and Application Development. A number of interesting projects were worked on during this year, including a fully operational ASP E-Commerce website.

The fourth and final year of the course was focussed around a 10,000 word dissertation. The topic area I chose for this, outsourcing of IT services, was inspired by my time spent on work experience. This report argued why Small and Medium Enterprises (SME's) were not at a disadvantage with regard to outsourcing IT services compared to global corporations. The taught elements of the final stage included a wide range of interesting modules, including Corporate Strategy, Statistical modeling by computer simulation, Multimedia Applications and Cybercrime.

Work Experience

Between June 2007 and September 2008 I spent my third year on work experience at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) in London, England. I spent this time working in Research and Development IT within an application support and maintenance team. This team was responsible for maintaining and improving systems that manage patient data related to clinical trials. As well as day to day running of systems, i project managed a number of initiatives to decommission obsolete systems and subsequently saving costs.

Other Work

Besides education I have worked on a number of projects under my own initiative. I am keen to learn new languages, especially new web based languages. Using the Adobe Creative Suite I enjoy designing new logos, flash movies or digitally editing my photographs.
